Jaipur: Nearly 14,000 students, from PG, UG and professional courses, who have passed out of the University of Rajasthan, are still waiting for their convocation ceremonies to be conducted for several years now.
The reason for this delay in the organising of convocation ceremonies and awarding degrees is that the University still has to prepare the degrees of these 14,000 students.
After much protest by students against this delay, the University has now started issuing provisional certificates prepared by a section officer.
"No officer was handed over the charge of the Degree Section from 1980-2007 hence this was the reason for the delay. A retired official was re-appointed and given independent charge of the section in 2007 to get the B.Com and B.Sc. degrees printed. The degrees till 2002 have been sent to respective colleges", Registrar of the varsity, N.K. Gupta said.
He added that the University has begun the process of preparing degrees of 2007 and steps are being taken to issue all the pending degrees soon.
