New Delhi: While Jamia Millia Islamia itself is waiting for a new Vice Chancellor, its faculty Furqan Qamar, Professor of management studies at this university, has been appointed new V-C of Rajasthan University.
Rajasthan Governor S. K. Singh has appointed Professor Qamar, 49, as V-C. Prof. Qamar is also functioning as Adviser to the Planning Commission of India. He will be the youngest person to be appointed the V-C of Rajasthan University. He has been appointed for a three-year term on the recommendation of the Vice-Chancellor Selection Committee. He will replace Prof. N. K. Jain.
Prof. Qamar has completed 25 years in teaching and research in India and abroad. He undertook several research projects in the capacity of professor at the Centre for Management Studies in Jamia. He has authored two books and more than a dozen research papers have already published in the journals of national and international repute.
Born in Ghazipur, in eastern Uttar Pradesh, in 1960, Prof. Qamar began his academic career at Lucknow Christian College from where he did B.Com in 1979. He did M.Com. and Ph.D. in financial control in Indian Universities from University ofucknow.
He started his teaching career as Teaching Assistant at Lucknow Christian College in 1981. He joined Jamia Millia as Professor in 2002.
His areas of specialisation are quality assurance in higher education, academic and administrative audit, financing, cost saving and resource use efficiency in higher education.
