ALLAHABAD: The secondary education department has decided to lend a helping hand to weak students through specially designed remedial classes. In a first move, it has instructed all schools affiliated to the UP Board to identify bright and weak students from class IX to XII and subsequently organise remedial classes.
The decision will not only enable weak students to be better prepared for final exams, but will also check the menace of coaching institutions.
The academic calendar for September, released by director, secondary education, KM Tripathi, asks schools to ‘‘take effective steps to ensure that students lacking in a particular subject are imparted remedial teaching (special classes after school time) to ensure better understanding of the subject and improve their performance’’. Besides, the calendar also directs the schools to complete the backlog.
Talking to TOI, director, State Institute of Science Education, Bhawna Shiksharthi said, ‘‘the education department has designed specific tests to identify areas where student need to have a better understanding.”
“In accordance with the outcome of these tests, schools would organise extra-classes where teachers would once again explain the lessons and clear students’ doubts,’’ she added.
