Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata (IISER Kolkata) is located in a village called Mohanpur in Nadia district at Kolkata in the state of West Bengal. IISER Kolkata was established in 2006 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. IISER - K is designed to reach the prestigious position in the global setting that IISc, IIMs and IITs presently enjoy. IISER - K is an autonomous institution awarding its own degrees. The central theme of the IISER - K is to integrate education with research so that undergraduate teaching as well as doctoral and postdoctoral research work could be carried out in symbiosis. Students are encouraged to carry out research projects during the vacation periods in the first four years of their Masters programme in various research institutes outside IISER.
The nearest railhead is Kanchrapara, which roughly 8 km from the campus, is located on the Sealdah-Kalyani main line. Highway NH-34 passes via a nearby village Jaguli, and connects the campus to Kolkata city, which is roughly 50 km away. This campus is a temporary arrangement within the campus of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya. The permanent campus is slowly coming up nearby at Haringhata. The nearest market area which also houses two ATM machines is situated in Jaguli, which is almost 2 km from the campus.

Admissions:
Eligibility:
1. Passed 10+2 or its equivalent examination in 2010 or appearing in 2011.
2. Also candidates satisfying at least one of the following three criteria may apply: (i) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) (SA,SB,SX), (ii) IIT JEE Merit List and Extended Merit List, (iii) State / Central Board followed by an aptitude test.
Computer Center:
IISER has its Computer Center to maintain the Proxy,mail,DNS,DHCP,web & library services. It also provides the computation facility to the students, faculty and staff members of the institute. It has various high end servers like AMD quad core, rack servers, IBM xeon servers for the purpose. Computer center also provides the network service to the institute.
