Karunya University (formerly Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences) is a fully residential Christian private university located in Coimbatore. It was founded as a Christian minority institution by late Dr. D. G. S. Dhinakaran, his son Dr. Paul Dhinakaran, Christian evangelists and founders of Jesus Calls Ministries, India.
The institute was inaugurated on 4 October 1986 as Karunya Institute of Technology by Arjun Singh, the former Human Resources and Development (HRD) minister in the Indian government. The institute was then affiliated to Bharathiar University in Coimbatore and functioned as a private self-financing engineering college. It was promoted by the Karunya Educational Trust. In 2004, the institute was awarded university status in recognition of its academic excellence by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and subsequently renamed as Karunya University under sec. 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide Notification No. 9-3-2000-U3 dt. 23.6.2004 of the Government of India.
The University is ranked among the top 15 private engineering colleges in India[1] and among the top 10 for engineering infrastructure by Outlook magazine. Karunya School of Management was rated as 'A level Business School' by Business India's "Tenth Best Business School Survey" 2009.

Scholarships
The college has built up a total amount of Rs. 10 Lakhs to be offered as scholarships, every year apart from the endowments instituted by the individuals in memory of their relatives and in addition to an amount of Rs. 50,000.00 contributed by the alumni association to support the scholarship scheme. The college scholarship is under two categories.
A. Jesus Calls Scholarship
Fifty percent of amount (around Rs. 5 Lakhs) offered as loan scholarship to the poor students under this scheme.
B. Karunya Scholarship
The other fifty percent (around Rs. 5 Lakhs) is offered as loan scholarship to the meritorious poor students under various categories as listed below.
