Pilani (Rajasthan): A new benchmark has been set by students of the Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences (BITS), Pilani in terms of the pay packages offered to them.
Highest pay this semester at the institute has been Rs.14 lakhs per annum.
"There is noticeable improvement in the recruitment scenario both in Pilani and Goa campuses compared to previous year. Intake per company is certainly more this year", said Prof. M.S. Das Gupta, Chief, Placement Unit who looks after the placement at both Pilani and Goa campuses which produce 1700 graduates and postgraduates every year.
Confident of campus placement for most of the students who pass out from Pilani and Goa campuses by the end of the year, Prof. Das Gupta said, "Some areas which are doing exceptionally well are Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science, wherein the placement has been almost 100%".
"In all likelihood, this will go up soon since many high profile companies such as Amazon, Credit Suisse, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobile are visiting for placement", added Prof. Das Gupta.
Prof. Das Gupta walked tall upon adding, "Areas such as electrical and electronics, mechanical and computer science are doing exceptionally well where the placement has reached almost 100 percent."
Giving a picture of student preferences for jobs this year, Mr. Ayoosh Bansal, Student Placement Coordinator at the university, said that students' inclination for core companies is more this year.
"Gradually the students' inclination is changing. They are looking forward to jobs in core companies in Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy and Management rather than open IT profiles. Also of late, there is increasing preference to join PSUs", said Mr. Bansal.
BITS Pilani is a Deemed University offering more than 35 different programs on-campus and has a remarkable placement record.
Most students have their careers charted out well before the completion of their graduation.
Talking about the campus at Pilani, about 1000 students graduate every year out of which, about 50 percent students are available on-campus in a given semester; the other 50 percent are in the Practice School stations all over India and abroad undergoing training at industry locations - a part of their curriculum.
