New Delhi: A 21-year-old student of Aditi College, who was allegedly kidnapped on Monday, was found murdered in west Delhi's Mundka village on Tuesday. Nikita Singh was found dead in a flat barely 200 metres from her home. The victim, a BA final year student, was allegedly kidnapped while returning home from college. The Nangloi police has registered a case of murder. A resident of the same village is being questioned.
According to DCP (west) Sharad Aggarwal, the girl left for college around 10am on Monday. According to Nikita's property dealer father Vijender, she failed to return home in the evening. "My daughter usually came home around 4pm. However, when she did not return till 7pm, we got worried and went to her college where we were told that she had left a long time back,'' Vijender said. It was then that a missing case was lodged at the Bawana police station in outer district. The police, however, claimed that since the girl was a major, they decided not to lodge a kidnapping case.
According DCP Aggarwal, the police began by tracking calls received by the girl. Her friends too were questioned. "Around 2.45pm, the father of the deceased received a call from an unknown number. The caller threatened him and told him that the girl had been kidnapped and was with him. However, when the father cross-questioned, the man said he had murdered his daughter and her body was lying in a locked home nearby. The frightened father then made a PCR call. We reached the spot and broke open the door to find the body inside a polythene bag,'' said Aggarwal.
Police said the body had been sent for postmortem. "Prima facie, it seems that the girl has a bullet injury on her temple. However, we will ascertain the exact cause of death after we receive the postmortem report," Aggarwal said.
Meanwhile, the police were trying to trace the call. Sources claimed that the murder weapon, a revolver, and a locked car had been recovered. Senior district officials, though, refused to confirm the claims but added that they were trying to question the Mundka resident who owned the house where the body was found.
