Geologist's Examination – 2010

A competitive examination for recruitment to the posts mentioned in para 2 below will be held by the Union Public Service Commission commencing from the 4h December, 2010 in accordance with the Rules published by the Ministry of Mines in the Gazette of India dated the 19th June, 2010.

The category of post to which recruitment is to be made on the results of this examination and the approximate number of vacancies in the various posts are given below :-

Category I : (Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines).

(i) Geologist (Junior) Group A (Post: 277)

Category II : (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources)

(i) Jr. Hydrogeologists (Scientist B), Group A (Post: 04)

(ii)Assistant Hydrogeologists, Group B (Post : 12)

Eligibility Conditions :

(I) Nationality

    A candidate must be either :
        (a) a Citizen of India, or
        (b) a subject of Nepal, or
        (c) a subject of Bhutan, or
        (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. or
        (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

(II) Age Limits :

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st January, 2010, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd January, 1978 and not later than 1st January. 1989.

The upper age limit is relaxable for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/ Other Backward Classes/ Physically Handicapped and certain other categories of candidates top the extent specified in the Notice published in the Employment News /Rozgar Samachar dates 19th June, 2010.

(III) Minimum Educational Qualification:

    (a) Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology from a University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational Institutes established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; or

    (b) Diploma of Associate ship in Applied Geology of the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; or

    (c) Master's degree in Mineral Exploration from a recognised University (for posts in the Geological Survery of India only);

    (d) Master's degree in Hydrogeology from a recognised University (for posts in the Central Ground Water Board only).

(IV) Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Geologists’ Examination, 2010 as per Regulations given in Appendix-II of the rules for the Geologists’ Examination, 2010 published in Gazette of India dated 19th June, 2010.

How to Apply:

(a)  Candidates can also apply  Online using the link www.upsconline.nic.in.  Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the above mentioned website.

(b)  Candidates are advised to read carefully the "Instructions for filling up the Offline Application Form" given in Appendix-II (A) and Instructions for Online Applications given in Appendix II (B) of this notice.

(c)  Candidates who wish to apply Offline must apply in the Common Application form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 20/- (Rupees Twenty only).  Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination. 

             In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/POs, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned post Master or UPSC's "FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL" over Telephone No. 011-23389366/FAX No. 011-23387310.

Fees:

(a) Candidates applying Offline (through Common Application Form) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only.

(b) Candidates applying Online are required to pay a reduced fee of Rs. 50/- (Rupees Fifty only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit Card.

(c) All Female candidates/ SC/ST/Physically Handicapped candidates are exempted from payment of Fee. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fee)

Address and Last Date for receipt of applications:

(a)  Online: The online Applications can be filled upto 12th June 2010 till 11.59 PM after which the link will be disabled.

(b)  Offline:

       All offline applications must reach the "Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi - 110069" either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by Courier, on or before the 19th July 2010.

Candidates should note that applications will be received by hand, only one at a time, at the designated counter(s) and not in bulk, till 5 PM only.

          However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote localities specified in para 6 of this Notice the last date for receipt of application by Post/Speed Post only (not by Hand or by Courier) is 26th July 2010.
