Alagappa University found in 1985 as emerged from the galaxy of institutions intially founded by the munificient and multifaceted personality, Dr.R.M.Alagappa Chettiyar in his home town at Karaikudi and is groomed to prominence as yet another academic constellation in Tamil Nadu. Alagappa University is located on about 420 acres (1.7 km²) in the business town of Karaikudi in Sivaganga District in Tamil Nadu, India. Karaikudi is 400 km south of Madras on the Madras - Rameswaram line and is accessible from Tiruchirappalli and Madurai in about 2 hours by road and rail. This seat of higher education has emerged from the galaxy of institutions founded by R.M. Alagappa Chettiar.

The Directorate of Distance Education was established in the University in 1992. The Directorate offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate and M.Phil. Programmes in the disciplines of management, computer applications, science, education and languages. The Directorate is also offering Under Graduate courses under Open University Stream.

Admission Procedure:

Under Distance Education Stream

The candidate may seek admission either directly to the University or through any one of the approved Study Centres. The list of Approved Study Centres is placed in this website.
If the candidates enroll directly with the University, the Course Materials shall be directly sent to them and they have to attend the Contact Classes at Karaikudi.
If candidates enroll through Study Centres, the Course Materials shall be sent through the Study Centres and they have to attend the Contact Classes arranged by the Study Centres at their places.

Examination:

At the end of each semester, the University conducts regular examinations for UG, PG and M.Phil programmes. The students who have earned 80% of attendance from the University Departments/Constituent Colleges and 75% of attendance from the affiliated Colleges in each semester are eligible to appear for the University examinations.
To qualify for a pass, a student should secure 50% marks in the examinations in the case of PG and M.Phil programmes and 35% in the case of UG programme. Double valuation is followed for the PG programmes offered by the University departments and M.Phil programmes, In case, the difference between two valuation exceeds 15% marks, the the paper is referred to a third examiner. The examination section is fully computerised to maintain confidentiality and ensure quick services.
