Dr. R.M.L. Avadh University, Faziabad is one of the fourteen State Universities of Uttar Pradesh having a residential-cum-affiliating character. The University was established vide Gazette Notification No. 1192/15-10-46 (6) / 75 dated 4th march, 1973 under the U.P. Universities Act., 1973. In the year 1984 four University Teaching Departments were established in order to provide specialized courses. Till June, 1993, the faculty of commerce and management of Dr. R.M.L. Avadh University was restricted only to the affiliated colleges where teaching in commerce only is being imparted at the Undergraduate and Post graduate level. Admittedly the faculty, as such, was not in a position to provide more trained practical, specialized and problem solving oriented personnel to meet the growing requirements of the Trade and Industry in the fields of finance, production, marketing etc. Therefore, it was ardently felt to introduce a course in Business Management with special stress on Entrepreneurship at the Master's level. The Government of Uttar Pradesh agreed in principal to start the Management Courses and as such the department of Business Management and Entrepreneurship came into existence vide G.O. No. 1921/10/93-46 (21)/93 dated 28th June, 1993.
