Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) is one of the premier medical colleges of India. The Maulana Azad Medical College is situated in the capital city of Delhi. It straddles the historic old city of Delhi on one side and the more modern Lutyen's Delhi on the other. The sprawling campus includes the college and three of its major associated hospitals namely Lok Nayak Hospital and GB Pant Hospital and the Guru Nanak Eye Centre. This institution is named after the great patriot and educationist, Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad and has been in existence since 1959.

Located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, New Delhi, MAMC has three associated hospitals, Lok Nayak hospital, Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, and Guru Nanak Eye Centre. The primary aim of this institution is to produce competent basic doctors, specialists, and super specialists.

The college made its humble beginning in hospital block of Irwin (Lok Nayak) hospital 1958. The foundation of main building of the college was laid by Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the then Home Minister of India, on 24th October, 1959. this building was declared open by the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 26th February, 1961.

Maulana Azad medical College provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The recreational facilities at MAMC are also superb. It is equipped with swimming pool, basketball courts, carom boardrooms, volleyball courts, snooker tables, table tennis tables and Badminton Courts.

Courses:

MAMC offers courses in medical specialties at the undergraduate, post graduate, and at the post doctoral levels. All the courses are recognised by the Medical Council of India and affiliated to the University of Delhi.

1. Undergraduate Courses:

The institution offers MBBS and BDS courses at the undergraduate level. It admits 180 students for the MBBS and 20 students for the BDS course annually.

         Duration of Courses:
           MBBS    :    5½ years (including 1 year of internship)
           BDS       : 5 years (including 1 year of internship)

2. Postgraduate Courses:

The institution offers postgraduate degrees and diplomas in a variety of medical specialties. A total of 67 seats are available for MD, 25 for MS, and 25 for post graduate diploma courses.

Admission:

1. Undergraduate Courses:

    M.B.B.S. Courses - 180 students are admitted annually. 15% of total seats i.e. 27 seats are filled in through the entrance examination conducted by the C.B.S.E. on All India basis. 15% of total seats i.e. 27 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7½% i.e.14 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. 9 seats are reserved for son/daughter/widow of Armed personnel disabled or killed in action during hostilities. 6 seats are reserved for Government of India nominees. 97 seats are filled on merit basis through DPMT Entrance Test conducted by Delhi University.

    B.D.S. Courses - 40 students are admitted annually. 15% of total seats i.e. 6 seats are filled in through the entrance examination conducted by the CBSE on All India basis. 15% of total seats i.e 6 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7½% i.e. 4 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes. 24 seats are filled on merit basis through DPMT entrance test conducted by Delhi University.

2. Postgraduate Courses:

25% of seats are filled in through the All India PG Entrance Examination. 75% of seats are filled through the PG Entrance Exam conducted by the University of Delhi.

3. Post Doctoral Courses:

The admission to postdoctoral courses are made through the entrance examination conducted by the University of Delhi.
