North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) is an Autonomous Institute of India situated in Shillong of the smallest states Meghalaya in India. NEIGRIHMS was established in 1987 by Government of India, under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983. It has now been designed as a Postgraduate Medical Institute in the lineage of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh. NEIGRIHMS has been the First and the only Postgraduate Medical Institute in the North Eastern Region and third in the country established by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The institute is named after Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India.

NEIGRIHMS Shillong was declared as a National institute. Currently, all the functions of the institute have been managed by the PMO. The college is spread across 306 acres of land. It has been recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.

The development of Interim Facilities at the Institute, catering to the specialised medical care in the field of Cardiology and Gastro-enterology with a 30 bedded hospital, civil works have been completed. Additional posts of 11 in the Group A level and 97 posts in Group 'B', 'C' and 'D' were created . All the Group C & D posts have been filled up.
