The Institute of Technology is the engineering school of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi. It is one of India's oldest and highest-ranked engineering colleges. Education in Engineering & Technology commenced at the University eighty years ago with the establishment of the Banaras Engineering College (BENCO) in 1919, College of Mining & Metallurgy (MINMET) in 1923 and College of Technology (TECHNO) in 1932. IT-BHU is among the top 10 Engineering colleges in india.

IT-BHU pioneered degree courses in mining, metallurgy, ceramics and pharmaceutics in India. Today, nearly ninety years later, IT-BHU continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of science and technology in India in a number of ways. It has produced world class engineers and scientists, and alumni of IT-BHU are achieving success in various capacities as entrepreneurs, managers, technocrats, consultants and advisers, and as faculty members and researchers, in India and abroad.It is frequently rated as one of the best technical institutes in the world.

The selection procedure for students at undergraduate, postgraduate and research level is highly stringent and is somewhat similar to IITs so that ITBHU gets the best brains of India. The Institute of Technology has not only developed to become a premier educational institution producing graduate engineers with sound scientific and technological background, but has grown into a Centre which provides versatile postgraduate training and conducts advanced research in Engineering and Technology. Admission:

Undergraduate Admissions

The admissions to the undergraduate programs at Institute of Technology - Banaras Hindu University are made through an all India competitive examinations known as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the seven IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. It is considered to be the most prestigious examination of national importance at 10+2 level.

Post Graduate Admissions

The admissions to the post graduate programs at Institute of Technology - Banaras Hindu University are made through an all India competitive examination known as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by the seven IITs and IISc Bangalore on behalf of national coordinating board GATE Department of education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Scholarship:

The Institute offers Merit-cum-Means scholarships to 25% undergraduate students. Besides, there are several endowment scholarships offered by the Institute. All the students (non-sponsored) admitted to M.Tech./M.Pharm. programmes are provided financial Assistance equivalent to the Junior Research Fellowships. The Institute offers a large number of Junior/Senior Research Fellowships to students admitted to Ph.D. programmes. Efforts are being made to offer scholarships to all eligible candidates admitted to Ph.D. Programmes.
